Call for Papers of Isidorianum (36/1, January-June 2027)
Call for Papers
Thomas Aquinas is one of the most renowned authors in the field of contemporary philosophical theology. Regardless of the scholars’ denominations, the ideas of this great medieval thinker are very popular in this area of contemporary philosophy. His philosophical contributions, far from being considered obsolete medieval ideas, continue to offer an intelligible vision of God for 21st-century man. For this reason, it is worth proposing a new reflection on his contributions to this field as a culmination of the three anniversaries of the Angelic Doctor that have been celebrated between 2023 and 2025: the seventh centenary of his canonisation, the 750th anniversary of his death and the eighth centenary of his birth.
Topics:
- Aquinas’ methodology for talking about God.
- Reflection on Aquinas’ argument regarding the existence of God.
- Aquinas’ criticism of Saint Anselm’s argument.
- The five ways and contemporary philosophical theology.
- Aquinas’ contribution to various theological questions: omnipotence, eternity, omniscience, etc.
- Divine providence versus the contingency, the necessity, and the free will of creatures.
- Aquinas’ reception of Greek, Christian, Arab, and Jewish sources into his philosophical theology.
- Aquinas and the philosophical theology of his time.
- Contributions of Thomism to philosophical theology.
- Modern and contemporary Thomism in conversation with other philosophical theologies.
- The philosophical theology of Aquinas and contemporary science: the origin of the cosmos, evolution and providence, etc.
